Jonnie Adamson, CA
Jonnie originally joined the firm in 1999 after graduating from the University of St Andrews with a degree in physics. Jonnie completed his CA training with the firm in 2003 before moving to live and work in the Channel Islands. He spent two years with BDO Guernsey before returning to Scotland and Henderson Black & Co, becoming a partner in 2006. Jonnie enjoys looking after a wide ranging of portfolio of tax and accounts clients. He has a particular interest in businesses operating in the technology and rural sectors as well as the golf industry.
A father of four, life is always busy for Jonnie. He enjoys sharing his love of sport by helping out with golf and rugby coaching in St Andrews whilst trying to maintain as low a handicap as he can manage on the Links.
Joanne Paul, CA
Joanne joined the firm in 2008, having trained in audit and corporate tax with Ernst & Young in Dundee and Edinburgh. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and has also completed the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (Scotland). She became a partner in 2015. She specialises in all areas of general practice but with a particular interest in tax and charities. Joanne is also actively involved in recruitment and the firm’s internal training programme.
Joanne’s outside interests include yoga, gardening and she is an avid supporter of Newcastle United football club.
Mark Robertson, CA
Mark is a Chartered Accountant with 30 years’ experience in public practice. He began his career at MFPT in St Andrews, where he qualified as a member of ICAS in 1997. In April 2009, following a merger, he became a partner in Henderson Black & Co.
Based primarily in the Anstruther office, Mark also serves clients from the Cupar and St Andrews offices. His portfolio covers a diverse range of sectors, including farming, fishing, hospitality, engineering and golf clubs. Within the firm, he oversees internal accounting functions and holds responsibility for anti-money laundering and data protection compliance.
Beyond his professional commitments, Mark is a football fan and on Saturdays, he can often be found attending matches in the East of Scotland Football League or local Fife amateur games. He also enjoys travelling and dining out and has recently started trying to recreate his favourite cocktails at home.
Matthew Struthers, CA
Following a period of working on the family farm and a BA degree in Accounting from Abertay University Dundee, Matthew started his CA training with the firm in 1990. After qualifying he worked for the NHS as a Project and Management Accountant in Perth and Larbert before returning to Henderson Black & Co in 1996, becoming a partner in 1998. He has a particular interest in farming and other owner-managed businesses, hospitality, golf and other clubs, charities, succession and tax.
Outside the office Matthew keeps a few sheep with his wife, Margaret, and has had a long involvement with a number of charities, in particular his local church and is secretary of a charity that supports the work of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs.
CONSULTANTS
John Stewart, CA
John qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991, meaning that he now has the dubious privilege of being the earliest qualified of the current Henderson Black team!
John studied agriculture at Edinburgh University and graduated with a BSc in 1982. He then worked full time on the family farm before a chance discussion led to him starting his CA training with the firm in 1987. After qualifying as a CA, John was a partner in the firm for several years in the 1990’s before the time demands of his expanding farming business caused him to retire from the partnership but to continue with the firm as a part-time consultant. John has continued in this role to the present day.
Outwith the office and farming, John is a keen skier, cyclist and Scottish Country Dancer.
ASSOCIATES
Moira Kinloch, CA
Moira is a long-standing member of staff and previously worked in the agricultural industry. She trained with the firm, qualifying in 1995, and became an associate in 2008. She is involved in all areas of general practice within the firm, working with a wide variety of clients.
Outside interests include walking and gardening.
Lynn Marshall, FCCA
A long-standing member of staff, Lynn trained with the firm, qualified in 1998 and became an associate in 2008. She works in all areas of general practice within the firm working with a wide variety of clients.
Outside of work Lynn enjoys gardening, going for walks and socialising with friends and family.
Louise McKay, CA
Louise joined the firm in 2009 after graduating with a degree in Accountancy from the University of Dundee. She completed her CA training with the firm, qualifying in 2013, and became an associate in 2024. She works in all areas of general practice, with a wide range of clients and is also regularly involved in the firm’s internal training programme.
Outside of work, Louise enjoys reading, gardening and walks with her dog.
QUALIFIED STAFF
Katie Davidson, FCCA
Katie joined the firm in 2024, having trained in the education sector. She has a varied background in industry, banking and local government. She works in all areas of general practice but has a particular interest in tax and plans to develop her skills in this area.
Katie’s outside interests include attending concerts and sporting events balanced by some down time reading and exercising.
Emily Fulton, CA
Emily joined the firm in 2018 after graduating with a degree in Accountancy from the University of Dundee. She trained with the firm, qualifying as a CA in 2022. Emily is involved in all areas of general practice within the firm enjoying the variety of work across our wide-ranging client base, as well as assisting with internal training.
Outside of the office Emily has a passion for music, playing multiple instruments, and enjoys attending the theatre and concerts with family and friends.
Kevin Ross, FCCA
Kevin joined the firm in 2005, having graduated from the University of Dundee in Financial Economics. He originally trained in the Cupar office before qualifying and subsequently joining the St Andrews team. He works in all areas of general practice, with a varied client base and is also involved in supporting and training the team around him.
Kevin’s outside interests include squash, football and swimming and is always on the lookout for a new sporting hero to fill the gaps Stephen Hendry, Chris Hoy and Andy Murray have left behind.
